About the Course

The aim of the course is to provide an appreciation of some fundamental Petroleum Engineering concepts. You will become familiar with fundamental petroleum engineering principles and get a broad understanding of reservoir fluid physical properties. You will get an understanding of the steps involved in the design, construction and evaluation of a typical well. The importance of safety and environmental issues will be stressed.

The course is normally of 2 days duration.

You Will Learn

  • Fundamental concepts of Petroleum Engineering, the earth and earth mechanisms; rocks and depositional environments; Various reservoir drive mechanisms.
  • Introduction to Drilling Operations; rig types, basic drill string components and drilling fluids.
  • Life of a well; from seismic, through drilling, well testing, completion, stimulation and intervention – an overview of the processes / stages in the life cycle of a well from exploration through to field abandonment.
  • Well design including a description of tubing string components and their functions.
  • The elements of a typical production system including principles of Vertical Lift Performance (VLP) and its relationship to Inflow Performance. Natural flow and the factors affecting well performance. Artificial Lift and their advantages/ disadvantages.
  • Well Servicing Operations (Slickline, Electric line, Coiled Tubing and Hydraulic Workover).
